Lakeland Life Picture Library
Images of Life, Industry & Traditions in the English Lake District

Information

Welcome to Lakeland Life Picture Library Website. We specialise in documenting both the traditional and contemporary aspects of this most delightful corner of England.

Subjects as varied as:

  • The woodland industries, drystone walling, Cumberland & Westmorland wrestling, hound trailing, a fell farmer's year to fishing for cockles on Morecambe Bay, the landscape, M6 motorway, wind farms and much more.

My earlier B&W photographs from the late 1960's to late 1970's were published in 'A Lakeland Camera' by Michael Russell. A portfolio of my colour work on the theme 'Valley Life' was published in 'Chris Bonnington's Lake District' by Dalesman. Dempsey Parr published a coffee table book of my more general Lakeland work under the title 'The Magic and Mystery of the Lake District'. This has now been reprinted by Parragon under the title 'Lake District'.

Sir Tom Hopkinson ex editor of ''Picture Post; reviewing. ''A Lakeland Camera; in The Sunday Telegraph said:

  • The author - clearly a photographer of talent, with a sense of humour and a knowledge of his territory - has set himself to record the trades, sports pleasures and too rapidly disappearing manner of life in his community.

All the images on this site are copyright David W Jones of Lakeland Life Picture Library.  Unauthorised use is prohibited.
